Buttercup

Welcome to buttercup class

Useful information

Our class teacher is Miss Ross.  Our class TAs are Miss Winning and Mrs Mou.

Our enquiry question this term is:

What makes me special?

Below you will find our Knowledge Organiser for this half term for you to read and share with your child. Within the Knowledge Organiser you will find a selection of topic homework ideas. Please complete one of these and return to school in the last week of term to share with the class.

Phonics

We use Read Write Inc Phonics to teach reading. Pupils in the early years, KS1 and KS2, if needed, are taught in a dedicated lesson each morning, led by their reading teacher. Pupils are grouped with others, working at a similar level of challenge. The scheme focusses on making connections: pupils connect sounds with mnemonic pictures, words with their meanings and stories with the sounds they know. They connect their own experiences to the stories they read and learn to lift the words off the page. Pupils learn one sound at a time and practise it until it becomes second nature. There are opportunities throughout the school day and weeks ahead to revisit and embed sounds previously taught.

Reading at home

Children should be reading 4 times a week, every day if possible. Each time you listen to your child read it should be recorded in their reading diary. The children could write in the book themselves and perhaps write about their favourite part.

Reading diaries must be brought to school every day.

Communication

We will use Tapestry as a means of sharing the children's learning with you. We encourage you to share any activities and achievements done at home as this really helps us get to know the children and understand their interests outside of school. We love to see what the children have been up to and they enjoy sharing with the class too.

The classroom door is always open for you at the end of the day to come and have a chat with us about any concerns you may have.

Internet safety

As we are increasingly incorporating the use of technology and the internet into our everyday lives it is important to teach children how to use these safely. If you would like any more information, there are some useful videos in the SMART internet use link and how to be SMART when using the internet.
